|Chapter 5||Education: Education is a key component to achieving the Bike 2015 Plan's goals to increase the number of trips by bicycle and improve the safety of the bicycling environment. Many people think that bicycling in Chicago is dangerous. This concern keeps people from bicycling more, or at all. A key way to address this concern is through education, particularly through the six objectives identified in this chapter.|
|Objective 1||Educate motorists and bicyclists to share the road.|
Expand the Bicycling Ambassadors program to educate more bicyclists and motorists about safe and responsible road use.
The Bicycling Ambassadors promote bicycling safety to all road users: bicyclists, motorists, and pedestrians. They appear at events year-round, especially between May and September. In 2005, the Ambassadors taught 32,000 people at 325 events.
|Peformance Measure||Expand Bicycling Ambassador program staffing and scheduling so there is direct contact with 35,000 people per year in 2006 and 40,000 people by 2008.|
