| Chapter 1 | Bikeway Network: "Bikeways" are streets and trails specifically designed for bicycle travel. Bikeways help bicyclists feel comfortable riding, whether on streets with heavy motor-vehicle traffic or on off-street trails. Surveys consistently indicate that providing bikeways is the most effective way to encourage bicycling. |
| Objective 2 | Establish new trails, improve existing trails, and improve access to trails. |
Strategy 3 | Ensure that trails built as a condition of development approval are designed and built to appropriate standards. Ensure that trails are the appropriate width and safely connect to the street network and/or existing trails. |
| Peformance Measure | Apply trail standards (refer to Strategy 2.2.) and establish a monitoring process by 2007. |
| Tracker Notes | Status unknown. I don't know if any trails have ever been built in Chicago as a condition of development approval. |
