Establish shared bus/bike lanes.

Strategy 1.1.3 Details

Chapter 1Bikeway Network: "Bikeways" are streets and trails specifically designed for bicycle travel. Bikeways help bicyclists feel comfortable riding, whether on streets with heavy motor-vehicle traffic or on off-street trails. Surveys consistently indicate that providing bikeways is the most effective way to encourage bicycling.
Objective 1Add new bike lanes and signed bike routes.

Strategy 3

Establish shared bus/bike lanes.

Exclusive lanes for buses and bicycles provide faster bus service and safer routes for bicycling. Three bus/bike lanes are currently established in Chicago. If successful, expand initiative.

Peformance MeasureEstablish 2-3 bus/bike lanes by 2008.
Tracker NotesWe don't believe bus-bike lanes have been created beyond the three already in place at the launch of this plan (Clark, Milwaukee, ?). Were they successful?
