|Chapter 1||Bikeway Network: "Bikeways" are streets and trails specifically designed for bicycle travel. Bikeways help bicyclists feel comfortable riding, whether on streets with heavy motor-vehicle traffic or on off-street trails. Surveys consistently indicate that providing bikeways is the most effective way to encourage bicycling.|
|Objective 3||Use innovative designs to expand and enhance the bikeway network.|
Implement measures on selected streets with bikeways to reduce speeding and encourage bicycling.
Fast driving is dangerous and discourages people from bicycling. Potential improvements include, where appropriate, curb extensions, striping, planted medians, textured crosswalks, and gateway treatments. All improvements should accommodate emergency, snow removal, and mass transit vehicles.
|Peformance Measure||Test measures at 5-10 bikeway locations by 2015.|
|Tracker Notes||Status unknown. I'm not aware of any of these improvements being made at bikeway locations, but I'm aware of them being made at non-bikeway locations.|
